On Friday, Oct. 5, 2018, 34 students were inducted into Phi Theta Kappa in the Fall Induction Ceremony that was held at ECC’s Training Center. The ceremony was a way for families to celebrate the new inductee’s accomplishment of being accepted into ECC’s Phi Theta Kappa membership that only students with high academics could achieve. The mission of Phi Theta Kappa is to encourage college students to achieve scholarship opportunities to develop their leadership and service skills while also providing exchange of ideas, gain fellowship and strengthen interest in academic excellence.

The night began with five speeches to open the event, opening remarks were made by current Chi Delta President: Joshua German. Followed by a welcome speech from ECC President Dr. Jon Bauer.

Dawn Little, Chi Delta President in 2014-2015, gave those in attendance real-world advice from how to learn at failing, pursuing a major that interests you and anything in-between. Afterwards, inductees were called up to the sign the membership roster and shake the hands of the officers, advisors and the college president. PTK advisor, Mr. Dixon, presented the inductee as they walked onto the stage. The night ended with refreshments of punch and cake.

Chi Delta President Joshua German said that, “the event went really well.” New member, Jennifer Komo, said that she is, “excited for all the opportunities that comes with being a member. Whether going to a conference or helping run an event, there are so many ways to be an active member in this organization.” Devon Kerckhoff, another new inductee, also added, “PTK seems like a nice thing for students to be a part of.”  PTK is one of the most prominent organizations on the ECC campus.

PTK’s current officers are: Joshua German, President; Nathan Nugent, Executive Vice President; Courtney Lewis, Vice President Public Relations Secretary and McKenzie White, Vice-President Recording and Finance.

PTK’s Advisors are Dr. Wendy Pecka, Melanie Dixon and Kevin Dixon. The meetings are on the first Tuesdays of each month at 2p.m. in room 215 of Buescher Hall.
