The East Central College Student Government meets every Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in Hansen Hall Room 286. This semester they are headed by veteran member Melissa Yetkin.
This year, the student council is focusing on community outreach and fundraising, which includes the blood drive on Nov. 15 and the life push-up challenge. They are also working to collect donations of collars and leashes for The Humane society and Stray Rescue.
The student council is very open and encourages all student to attend their meetings. Students only must attend two consecutive meeting in order to become a senator and cast votes on issues affecting the college.
The meetings last about 30 minutes, so even if a student cannot make the beginning because of class schedule conflicts, it is still worth attending the second half of the meeting ﹘ which is when the floor opens for public comments.
Another way to get involved in the student government is reaching out to SGA Public Relations Officer Michail Ratcliff by emailing him at email@example.com and requesting updates via phone, email, text or GroupMe. Students can also stay updated by following ECC Student Government on Facebook, where Chief Recording Officer Bryce Gojohn posts minutes after every meeting.
