On August 29, 2021, Kanye West released his tenth studio album called Donda. Donda is the name of his mother, who passed away in 2007. The album is unique, but not his best work. The first song on the album is called “Donda Chant” which is somebody saying “Donda” repeatedly. A lot of people thought this was creepy and considered to be some type of cult situation. But it turned out to be his mother’s heartbeat whenever she had passed away. It is a good song to start the album with; it sort of makes you feel sunken and brings you to a deep place.
Another thing is that all the songs kind of sound the same to me. But on a more positive note, the words to the songs are what matters. In his songs, he tells us about his deepest moments with things such as his Christianity, his struggle with bipolar disease, divorce, etc. While the words are meaningful, the beat and sequences just are not it. It is hard for me to listen to this whole album because I get bored. But a person needs to listen to it more than a few times to let it grow on you.
