The Falcon’s softball team was disappointed after their first games at Northeast Mississippi Community College, scheduled Feb. 16-17, were canceled due to poor field conditions from rain.
Despite the setback, the team kicked off the Spring 2018 season with wins against Missouri Valley College on Feb. 27 and Lewis & Clark Community College on March 2.
According to Athletic Director Jay Mehrhoff, this year’s softball team has a mix of new talent and veteran sophomores. Two of the sophomore players have already been accepted to four-year universities to play. Jenson Crenshaw has committed to play for St. Francis University in Joliet, Ill., and Megan Micke is still deciding between Missouri Baptist College and Lyon College in Arkansas.
Head Coach Brad Wallach’s approach for this season has been to focus on constantly improving and competing as hard as possible.
“We want to focus on the things we can control and if we do that, winning will take care of itself,” Wallach said. “Historically, that philosophy has worked pretty well.”
In an effort to attract students to the softball games, a “Pack the Stands” event will be held on the ECC Softball Field at 2 p.m. on April 12. There will be free food and drinks available, and t-shirts will be given away to the first 80 people to arrive at the event.
