The annual ECC Student Invitational Poetry Reading, hosted by Joshua Stroup, took place on Tues., Nov. 21.
ECC English faculty and tutor Raphael Maurice, whose book of poetry is expected to release in January of 2018, was featured as a guest poet. More of Maurice’s work will be featured at the Film and Lecture Series’ Poetry Reading on Thurs., April 19 at 7 p.m.
The poetry reading, for the most part, featured the work of students from Stroup’s Fall 2017 Creative Writing class.
Jonathon Stone read a poem he wrote, “Once a Soldier, Always a Soldier,” which focused on childhood antics and a Vietnam veteran. Jessica Seiter read two of her poems, “Doppelganger” and “Height Requirement,” which dealt with broken relationships. Kaytlyn Ballard read “The Moon and Me,” a poem she wrote from the perspective of a drug addict who is losing everyone around her.
