It’s that time of the year again, time to turn your attention and look ahead to a big and exciting season in Falcon Athletics.
Right out of the gate, the Falcons Soccer team has started off fast despite an early loss to the immensely tough Kansas City Community College.
”I think the players just weren’t at the conditioning level they needed to be at and were a little naïve to the demands of the game” said Athletic Director Jay Merhoff.
After reeling off of six straight victories against Parkland College, Morton College, Missouri Baptist JV, Crowder College, Illinois Central College, Lincoln Land and St. Charles Community College, the Falcons seem to have put that first loss far behind them.
There are several events coming up in athletics to look forward to.
On Oct. 3, the soccer team will host “Flank the Field,” sponsored by Volpi. There will be free t-shirts and a raffle as the Falcons take on MCC Blue River.
On Oct. 21, the Region 16 Quarterfinals begin. On Oct. 24, semi-finals will kick off, followed by finals Oct. 28 and finally the District Playoffs Nov. 5.
A new transfer player (whose name will be revealed at a later date), that has played soccer at Borgia and is widely considered to be the top player in the area, will be attending ECC by the end of the Fall 2017 semester.
The Falcons Volleyball team also had a good start to the season, having won the Falcon Classic for the second straight year by going 3-1 in the tournament. This year the Falcons have posted an 8-6 record despite a very tough schedule early-on against the likes of #1-ranked team Parkland, who the Falcons fell to.
The Falcons are buoyed by four returning sophomores who have been key veteran leaders as the teams bolsters what Merhoff considers a “much improved defense.”
On Oct. 11, the team will be hosting St. Louis Community College for “Jam the Gym” night where there will also be free t-shirts and raffles.
ECC’s Softball team are in their fall exhibition schedule with upcoming games on Oct. 22-23.
They will open their season by traveling to Mississippi for the Tiger Fest tournament. The team has two first team all-conference and all-region players, Jensen Crenshaw (C) and Megan Micke (SS), returning to lead the Falcons this season alongside 7 incoming freshmen.
