Softball coach enters second year with Falcons

Grant Young is the head softball coach for the Lady Falcons and will be entering his second year of coaching. Although it is only spring they’re off to a great start at East Central College.

Young is coming off of a couple of great years while coaching softball, most recently in 2023 coming home with a state title. He has been coaching sports for 26 years, which includes experience in boys and girls basketball and softball.

“I love the competition, preparation, and road to success. But most of all seeing the girls learn they aren’t learning softball but how to succeed in life and in a career.” said coach when referring to his favorite part about coaching softball.

The team has been playing fall ball and coach had some key points about how that affects the team coming into the spring season. “Fall is more about learning coaches expectations and how the day by day college life works. When January comes, now it turns into reaction and execution.” The team has many talented players but he hopes the team is willing to put in the work and the results will show for them come the spring season.

Servant Leadership is a top priority for the team because he believes that those that are selfish never truly become the best player they can be. When the whole team learns this, according to Young: success will follow.
