Daddy Killed a Bad Man

By Terry Callaway

Daddy killed a bad man

He sent him far away

Told us he was selling drugs

So that he could not stay

We cheered for Daddy

Praised him true, just as we were told to do

For Daddy’d never lie to us

His good and faithful crew

Then Daddy killed a bad man

He sent him far away

Told us he was in a gang

Though it didn’t seem that way

We questioned Daddy

wondered, too, yet Daddy told us clear

“Daddy’d never lie to you”

So we believed him here

But Daddy killed a good man

I saw it clear as day

Skin-deep crimes were all he’d done

But still took him anyway

I asked Daddy, begged for truth

But Daddy did not budge

So Daddy took me far away

For questioning too much

So Daddy killed a bad man

The man who’s bad for him

The man who’s skin is dark

And the man who asks questions

Men with homes and families too

Men who did no wrong

Yet Daddy sends them far away

All the bad men one by one
