County citizens within the ECC taxing district went out to the polls on April 9 to make their voice heard.
Proposition ECC was introduced for the second time, hoping to help out the school’s infrastructure. The vote failed in Washington, Franklin, and Crawford counties.
The measure spanned over the ECC taxing district and needed a 50 percent approval rating to pass. 53.2 percent of people voted against the measure, 46.8 percent of people voted yes to Prop ECC. The vote failed by only 727 votes, but the public has made their voice heard.
ECC was hoping to keep the current tax rate at what the taxpayers were currently paying. The decision to vote against it will decrease the taxing levy of ECC by 9.9 cents. There’s a bit of uncertainty with East Central College and how this decision will affect the institution.
