Inside ECC Softball

By Taylor James Editor

Family, that’s the word new ECC head Softball Coach Grant Young used to describe his team. Coach Young is hoping to bring in a new area but also building off the base that the previous Falcons Softball coach brought.

Coach Young is originally from Union and took classes at East Central, so when there was an opening for the next Softball coach at ECC, Young took it. The team this year has a lot of returning players and Young hopes that they can come out strong to start the season. Coach Young said, “Take it one game at a time and see where that leads us.”

The Falcons have some tough competition this season. ECC has foes in their conference with Jefferson College and St Charles Community College. It’s also important for the team to look out for the regional opponents in St Louis Community College, Mineral Area College, and Moberly Area Community College. The East Central Softball team always has a tough schedule and this year will be no different.

Sophomore Sam Kozlowski, originally from Wentzville, was recruited by East Central for Softball and has enjoyed her time at the school. Kozlowski has committed to play at Culver-Stockton next year for Softball and will apply to their radiology program. She also hopes to get a home run this year because she didn’t have any in the prior season.

Another returning player for the Falcons Softball team this year is Addyson Steele, who is from Elsberry, and came to ECC to not only play Softball but get a good quality education. Steele has a team first mentality and when asked about her favorite memory with the team she said,”I don’t know if I have a specific one, because we laugh and make new memories every day”

Coach Young knows that he’s at East Central to coach the team but also he wants to implement servant leadership. Young understands that playing days are temporary and he preaches that there’s something bigger and he hopes his players understand that. As for the team with Kolzowski and Steele they’re hoping to leave a positive impact on their team after their final season at ECC.
