The Student Government Association (SGA) at ECC had their monthly meeting and met with club officers, ECC staff, and ECC students. They discussed upcoming student events, student resources, and touched very heavily on Proposition ECC or Prop ECC for short.
SGA will be hosting Trivia Night on March 17 and it will be a free event for students and ECC staff. Their theme for the Spring’s trivia night is Y’all-ternative as in alternative themed questions and how the night will be themed. All SGA officer positions will be open for ECC students after this Spring semester, if anyone is interested they can meet SGA in DSSC 101.
Spring Fling is a big event coming up for ECC students and that will also be hosted by student government. This will be an opportunity for students to hang out and learn more about the student life ECC has to offer. The event will be on April 17 from 11-2 outside at the Quad, more details are to be added at the next SGA meeting.
Prop ECC will be on the ballot on Tuesday April 8 for citizens in the ECC taxing district. Students at ECC are encouraged to get educated on this and the students who happen to live in the taxing district are encouraged to vote. The proposition if passed, will increase a tax levy that was used for paying off ECC’s debt for the Health Science building. Citizens of the ECC taxing districts’ taxes would not increases but would just move from 9.9 cents to a proposed levy that would be used to fix the infrastructure of ECC. If this proposition wouldn’t pass the citizens taxes would go down but it would have a big impact on programs and students at ECC.
The next student government meeting will be held on March 27 in DSSC 103 at 2pm. Students of any kind are encouraged to attend because this gives ECC a more engaging student experience.
