Spring sports at ECC have been training in the fall to get ready for their spring seasons.
During the Summer ECC hired brand new coaches for their respective spring sports. Falcons baseball will be getting Grant Miller as the new skipper. Miller coached at St Charles community college for the past 6 years. He was primarily coaching the outfielders and hitters, now he will bring his expertise to ECC. The new softball coach is Grant Young, many people in Franklin County, Mo., are familiar with him. He is the current coach of the Washington Blue Jays and has led them to back-to-back state titles. Young will continue to coach the Blue Jays but will add collegiate experience to his resume.
So, what happened to the old coaches? They left for other opportunities. The old head coach of Falcons Baseball, JM Kelly left. He led the Falcons to their best season in school history 37-21, which is the most wins in school history. Kelly left to go coach for the Dodge City Vikings in Dodge City, Ks. Kelly was the head coach of the Falcons since their 2020 revival. Longtime Falcons coach Brad Wallard decided it was time to hang up the cleats. He coached for the Falcons since 2009, and he went 333-342 as a Head coach and so it was decided it was the right time to retire.
Coach Young called his squad, “scrappy” meaning that they are not afraid to compete with anybody. They have faced tough competition running from NAIA schools, to even NCAA D2 competition and have shown they are not afraid. Baseball is trying their best to get into full swing, they had a game against one of their rivals at Busch Stadium. There is not much information on that now.
Softball and baseball are preparing themselves for success coming in the spring of 2025. New coaches and new personnel, some familiar faces, and a new era for the falcons.
