The Spring 2018 semester has begun, which means the East Central Art Gallery will bring new exhibits for the community to see.
“This semester features four group shows, and what’s interesting is that the four groups are at quite different stages in their lives,” Jennifer Higerd, East Central College Gallery Coordinator, said.
The exhibits will feature high school students, college students and even ECC faculty throughout the semester, giving those that wish to view the exhibits through the spring semester the opportunity to see members of the community that have just started to perfect their creativity and those that have spent years perfecting it.
The first exhibit was the Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville Art Therapy Graduate Student Show, “Art Therapy Expanded,” which focused on the investigation of materials, images and content from the graduate students in the Art Therapy Graduate program at SIU-Edwardsville. The exhibit was displayed from Jan. 22 to Feb. 18.
ECC Art and Design Department’s “Annual Faculty Show” will be featured in the gallery from Feb. 26 through March 27. This show gives faculty of the ECC’s Art Department the opportunity to inspire as well as show their talents to the students and the community with their view of the world.
The exhibit will feature anything from photography to drawing, digital art and painting to sculpture and ceramics. The reception for the “Annual Faculty Show” was held on March 9.
The Four Rivers Conference “Annual High School Art Show” will begin April 2 and will be on display until April 13. The show allows area high school artists to show the community their work. A reception will be held on April 13 at 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The final art show for the semester is the “ECC Art & Design Student Show.” Beginning on April 23, students from the ECC Art Department will showcase the creative skills that they have learned and enhanced during the semester. The “ECC Art & Design Student Show” will end on May 10, with a reception held on May 3 starting at 5 p.m. and ending at 7 p.m.
This semester is an exciting time for the East Central College Art Gallery. Featuring collaborations rather than a single artist, there will be something for everyone to appreciate.
